6 Xylo 2 by Al Margolis
large ensemble (15 = 5 trios)
XYLO 2 continues a recent trend in my work. I have been recycling/ reworking/re/de/constructing different compositions recently. XYLO 2
thus began as part of a work for 16 loudspeakers, entitled 8 notes, 16 speakers,
x players. In preparation for a live performance of this piece with 4 players,
I recorded a demo’ version using sampled flutes, marimba and xylophone.
I then proceeded to further modify the marimba tracks, which are heard as the three gongs. XYLO 2 is playable by any multiple sets of 3 players, preferably with each set using similar instrumentation. This is the world premiere performance of the work.

an unheard sound manifests, (even as silence can be heard) from an ever-present source,
stirring sound waves that hold the frequency of all you intend and the vibrancy of all you hold,
in your listening.
Will Swofford, electronics (US)
Brigitte Meyer cello (Switzerland)
and Anne Bourne cello (Canada)
with gratitude for the drawings of Joe Catalano for As Ocean's Curve and The Arc of the Gathering, not exactly a dedication, but like a quote at the beginning of a book.
AB
10 ... In the nether territory between improvisation and composition, unheard sounds appear and spontaneously manifest, taking form through the intention of listening, and the desire to explore music-making itself as a continuous flow of sound and silence. The result is fluid—incidental self-arising drones, in combination with the live-processing environment offered through the Expanded Instrument System, (EIS) developed by composer Pauline Oliveros. This use of digital sound processing further accelerates the sound, and harmonic "soul" resonance on many registers. WS
each improvisor creates drones or silence, while observing both their inherent sound and it's context in space and time, and beyond.
HMMM by Kathy Kennedy ( as of june 4th she is skyping in from Montreal )
